The Association of Norwegian Foundations is Norway's largest community for foundations. We are a unifying force for different types of foundations – philanthropic, enterprise and operational. Here you can find a short introduction to our 550+ members and our purpose and mission.

Our Purpose and Mission

The Association of Norwegian Foundations' purpose is to

  • make the institution of foundations visible and increase the understanding of the socially beneficial role of foundations, and build awareness about philanthropy and foundations in Norway
  • advocates for favorable regulatory conditions, and work to ensure good and predictable framework conditions for the establishment and management of foundations
  • provide a forum for the exchange of best practice and expertise among foundations, and support collaboration among our diverse membership

The Association of Norwegian Foundations facilitates information exchange to enhance the collective impact of foundations in Norway. We provide guidance and resources, and promote good governance and foster transparency.

We foster collaboration for a better society, and facilitate for good causes.

Our Members

The Association of Norwegian Foundations members constitute Norway's largest community of foundations. They are among Norway's most active foundations.

We organize both philanthropic foundations, enterprise, operational, etc. The articles of association of the different 550+ foundations contains both corporate and charitable objectives. Here you will find an overview of all our members.

Our Partnerships

The Association's most important partners are our members. We collaborate with member foundations on seminars, meetings and other relevant matters for members.

We are in regular dialogue with a number of relevant actors for foundations nationally and internationally. Some are also formal partners. Our national and international partners include private and public educational institutions and research environments in Norway, other national member associations, and other foundation associations in the Nordic countries and Europe.

We are in close dialogue with other relevant Norwegian, Nordic and European member associations, and with public bodies such as The Norwegian Foundation Authority and the Foundation Complaints Board.

The Association of Norwegian Foundations also collaborates with our associate members to create relevant professional events and networking venues for our members and foundations in Norway. Here you will find an overview of our associate members.

Foundations in Norway

Norway's over 6,000 foundations are found in all sectors and in all counties. They are philanthropic, enterprise, operational etc.

Information about all Norwegian foundations can be found in the The Foundation Register, which was developed and made available in a new form in 2025.

The Foundation Register is a visualization of information that the foundations themselves keep updated in The Brønnøysund Register Centre.

The Foundation Register is developed and operated by The Norwegian Foundation Authority.
